Department Details

The Department of Geography established in the year 2007. Initially the department offered only the Undergraduate General Courses. It was 2013 since when the department was able to start the Honours courses in Geography.

The faculty of the department consists of four teaching staff including one Assistant Professor and three State Aided College Teachers (SACT) and one non-teaching staff (Lab. Assistant).

The department is in Rastra Guru Surendra Nath (RSNG) Campus, which is just beside the Hooghly river and has the most beautiful garden surrounded by greenery. This in itself provides our students a great opportunity to have a more geographical view of the subject. Apart from that the open ground also plays a vital role for the practical classes like Dumpy Level and Prismatic Compass survey that require open fields.

As required by the courses, the department is well equipped with instruments and computer lab and has a Departmental Library. Study tour cum excursion, a matter of great interest within the students, is also organized by the department each year for the partial fulfillment of the course.

Apart from the formal classroom instructions the department also encourages students in extracurricular activities as well as recreational activities like preparing Wall Magazines, organizing departmental picnic and programs like Fresher's Welcome and Farewell that collectively help to build a sense of self-sufficiency, unity, sociality and solidarity among students.
