Mahadevananda Mahavidyalaya, a co-educational day College, originally affiliated
to the University of Calcutta was founded in Monirampore, under Barrackpore
Sub-division of North 24 Parganas, West Bengal, by Late Swami Jyotirmoyananda
Giri Maharaj, in the sacred memory of his preceptor Late Swami Mahadevananda
Giri Maharaj, on the auspicious day of Janmashtami, and the Independence Day,
the 15th of August, 1968. The 15th of August being a holiday, the 16th of August
has been officially declared as the Foundation Day of the College. This college
accredited by NAAC at A grade. The vision of the Founder of this educational
Institute Late Srimat Swami Jyotirmoyananda was to spread Science Education
initially among the boys and girls and to that end, he founded this
co-educational Degree College, a temple of formal higher education, to later the
needs of the local people particularly the people of the industrial belt of
North 24 Parganas and to satisfy the national needs at large. As the successor
of the founder monk, we trust (our Mission)in the wider connotation of
“Education” and we believe that education is the training for a meaningful life
and a continuous process for making of a complete human being enriched in “Value
Education”. As this institution was founded by a group of spiritual monk, we
always concentrate our effort to imbibe among the students a sense of sacrifice,
social awareness and respect for the proud Heritage of India. So our objective
is: |
|
|
1. To convince our pupils that success in formal education can be worthwhile
only when personal achievements are combined with social commitment and
responsibility.
2. To instill and enhance confidence, consciousness and ability of our pupils to
face an overhanging world.
3. To develop a temper of honesty, discipline and an undying sprit of success
among the pupils.
We believe in the age old Sanskrit sloka: |
|
|
“Om sahana Bhabatu
Om Sahanau Bhaunakti
Om Saha Biryang Karaba Bahai
Tejashwi Nabadhitamastu
Ma Bidisha Bahai
Oh Shanti ! Shanti! Shanti!” |

i.e. may the supreme power protect us both (students and Teachers) May he
empower us to enjoy the fruits of knowledge. May he empower us with vibgyor to
attend the wisdom, through our teaching let there be no dislike between us
(Student and Teachers). The above visitor, Mission of the institution is also
reflected through our emblem. In the emblem the following water signifies,
ceaseless selfless and uninterrupted flow of effort and endeavour (Karma), the
lotus signifies, devotion and dedication (Bhakti), the conch shell below and
announces, the devotion and dedication (Bhakti), the Conch shall bellows and
announces, the inevitable victory of virtue over vice, the noble over the mean,
Om invokes the awakening of eternal and endless Power within. All these, when
combined together, herald the dawn of enlighten and wisdom (Jnana), signified by
the rising Sun. The sloka attached to emblem “Tamaso Ma Hyotirgamaya “Signify”
Lead us from dark to light” i.e. from formal knowledge to wisdom. The above
vision, Mission and objectives are communicated to teachers, student, staff and
stakeholder through our prospectus and through Academic Calendar published by
the College & it is also directly communicated to the students through a few
class lecturers at beginning of new session . |
